- Visit our website
at https://use-a2e.com or any website of ours that links to this Privacy Policy
- Use
A2E .A2E is a Chrome extension that lets you ask about the page you're on — without leaving the tab or pasting it into another app. Press a shortcut, talk or type, get a short answer back, and keep working.
- Engage with us in other related ways, including any marketing or events
Questions or concerns? Reading this Privacy Policy will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. We are responsible for making decisions about how your personal information is processed. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you still have any questions or concerns, please contact us at support@use-a2e.com .
SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS
This summary provides key points from our Privacy Policy, but you can find out more details about any of these topics by using our table of contents below to find the section you are looking for.
What personal information do we process? When you visit, use, or navigate our Services, we may process personal information depending on how you interact with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. Learn more about personal information you disclose to us in section 1.
Do we process any sensitive personal information? Some of the information may be considered "special" or "sensitive" in certain jurisdictions, for example your racial or ethnic origins, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs. We do not request sensitive personal information and do not intentionally collect it. Because A2E sends the page you are on, a picture of the part of it you can see, and your question to our AI provider in order to answer you, that content may contain sensitive information if you choose to use A2E on a page that contains it. We do not store it. Learn more about sensitive information in section 1.
Do we collect any information from third parties? Only from two sources. If you sign in with Google, Google shares the basic profile information on your Google account with us, including your name and your email address (see section 7). When you pay, Stripe sends us the payment records described in section 1. We do not buy or otherwise obtain information about you from anyone else.
How do we process your information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so. Learn more about how we process your information in section 2.
In what situations and with which types of parties do we share personal information? We may share information in specific situations and with specific categories of third parties. Learn more about when and with whom we share your personal information in section 4.
How do we keep your information safe? We have adequate organizational and technical processes and procedures in place to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Learn more about how we keep your information safe in section 10.
What are your rights? Depending on where you are located geographically, the applicable privacy law may mean you have certain rights regarding your personal information. Learn more about your privacy rights in section 12.
How do you exercise your rights? The easiest way to exercise your rights is by emailing us at support@use-a2e.com . We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

TABLE OF CONTENTS
1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
Personal information you disclose to us
In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:
names
email addresses
birth year (used once at sign-up to confirm you are old enough, and not stored)
usage data
Sensitive Information. We do not request sensitive personal information — such as health, financial, biometric or genetic information, government identifiers, account credentials, or information about your racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or political opinions — and we do not intentionally collect it. No field, form or feature of the Services asks for it.
The Services work by transmitting content you choose. When you ask a question, A2E sends the question, the content of the web page you are on and a picture of the part of that page you can see to our AI provider in order to answer it (section 15 describes exactly what is read). That content may contain sensitive personal information if you choose to use the Services on a page that contains it — for example a patient portal, an online banking page or a password manager — or if you include such information in your question. Where it does, we process that information only to generate your answer, and only because you have chosen to ask about that page.
A2E looks at a page only when you ask about it. Apart from our own website, which the extension must be able to reach in order to sign you in, the extension has no standing permission to access any web page: your browser lets it into a page only in response to a deliberate action of yours on that page. When you press the shortcut on a page (or ask a follow-up, or choose Ask again on an answer), A2E takes the picture of what you can see in that tab; when your question is sent (when you press the shortcut again, press Enter after typing, use the send control on the A2E card, or a recording reaches its maximum length and is sent for you), it reads the page's text. It never reads pages in the background, never reads other tabs, and reads nothing at any other time.
The page text A2E reads is the text on the page, not only the part on your screen, but not text the page hides. It does not include what has been typed into form fields — passwords, card numbers, search boxes and message boxes are not part of it — and the contents of a password field are never included even if you have highlighted them. Text you have highlighted on the page is included, so that A2E can focus on it; that includes text you have highlighted inside an ordinary text box. The page address is sent without anything after a ? or #.
The picture shows only the part of the page you can see in that tab — not your other tabs, other windows, or anything else on your screen. Anything shown there can appear in it, including text you have typed into a box on the page. A2E does not take a picture in an Incognito window, on pages that aren't ordinary websites, or when it spots a password, payment card or one-time-code box on your screen; then your question is sent without one. It can also skip the picture for technical reasons. There is no separate setting to turn the picture off: if you don't want a page seen, don't ask A2E about it.
We do not store that page content, the picture or your question on our servers, and we do not keep them after your answer is generated. Our AI provider, OpenAI, processes them to produce your answer. We have set up our account with OpenAI so that it does not keep them for us; OpenAI may still keep a request for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, and then deletes it. If you speak your question, the recording is handled the same way, except that OpenAI's transcription service offers no setting to turn its retention off: OpenAI may keep the audio for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deleting it.
Because the page you are on is sent when you ask, do not activate the Services on a page you do not want transmitted. Pages to avoid include password managers, online banking, patient portals, tax and payroll systems, and any page showing information about someone else that you are not entitled to share. Your questions and A2E's answers (never the page content or the picture) are kept briefly in your browser so that follow-up questions work; section 15 says for how long and how they are cleared.
Payment Data. If you buy a plan or extra usage, you enter your card details and your billing address on a checkout page hosted by Stripe; your card number and security code go to Stripe and never touch our servers or our database. We send Stripe your email address and your account identifier so it can bill you, and Stripe sends us back your Stripe customer identifier, your subscription status and plan, and the identifiers, dates, periods and amounts of your invoices, purchases and plan changes, which we keep. When you change plans, we also read from Stripe the brand and last four digits of the card that will be charged, to show it to you, and keep them only while you review the change. To check that plan changes are available to you, we read the country of that card's billing address, the country the card was issued in, and the country of any address you've saved with Stripe; we compare each with the United States and keep none of them. When you tick a box to agree to a plan change, Stripe keeps a record of what you agreed to and when, with that payment or scheduled change, and we keep our own (section 9). All payment data is handled and stored by Stripe . You may find their privacy notice here: https://stripe.com/privacy .
Social Media Login Data. We may provide you with the option to register with us using your existing social media account details, like your Google account. If you choose to register in this way, we will collect certain profile information about you from the social media provider, as described in the section called " HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR SOCIAL LOGINS? " below.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
Information automatically collected
In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services. We automatically collect a small amount of technical information when you use the Services. It does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information). It is: your IP address, which our hosting provider receives with every request, which we use to limit requests to our service in order to prevent abuse (section 15), and from which, when you check out, the country you appear to be connecting from is used to show you a notice about where paid plans are available (it is not stored); for visits to our website only, the address of the page you view (including any parameters in it), the site that referred you, your browser, operating system and device type, and the approximate location — country, region and city — that our website analytics derives from your IP address (section 5); the time zone your browser reports, which the extension sends us and which we store with your account; and, for each question you ask, a record of when it was asked and how much of your plan's limit it used (section 15). When you sign in, our authentication provider also records your IP address and browser information as part of your session, for security, and when you sign up, sign in or reset your password, a security check provider receives your IP address and browser characteristics (section 15). Our hosting provider also keeps short-lived technical logs of requests to our service. We do not collect device names, language preferences, hardware settings, or precise location, and we do not use any error- or crash-reporting service.
The only cookies we set are the ones described in section 5; we use no other tracking technology.
The information we collect includes:
- Log and Usage Data. Our own records of your activity in the Services are a record of each question you ask — when it was asked, which model answered it, how many web searches it used, your plan, and what it cost us to run — and a running monthly measure of how much you have used the Services, which we use to show you your usage and to apply your plan's limits. None of these holds the text of your questions, the answers, the pages A2E read or the pictures. Our website analytics (section 5) records page views on our website; it is not tied to your account.
- Device Data. We do not collect device identifiers, device names, hardware models, carrier or Internet service provider details, or system configuration. When you sign in to the extension, it sends us the identifier of the extension, what we need to check that its requests come from the browser you signed in on, and your browser's time zone (section 15).
Google API
Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law.We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
- To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.

In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason (i.e.If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:

fulfill our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.
- Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may process your personal information for some of the purposes described in order to:
Analyze how our Services are used so we can improve them to engage and retain users
- Diagnose problems and/or prevent fraudulent activities
- Understand how our users use our products and services so we can improve user experience

In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including, for example:
- If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way
- For investigations and fraud detection and prevention
- For business transactions provided certain conditions are met
- If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim
- For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
- If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
- If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
- If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
- If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced
- If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes
- If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations
- We may disclose de-identified information for approved research or statistics projects, subject to ethics oversight and confidentiality commitments
Vendors, Consultants, and Other Third-Party Service Providers. We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents ( "third parties" ) who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. We have contracts in place with our third parties, which are designed to help safeguard your personal information. This means that, except as this policy describes, they cannot do anything with your personal information unless we have instructed them to do it. They may use their own service providers to do that work, under similar terms, but will not otherwise share your personal information. They also commit to protect the data they hold on our behalf and to retain it for the period we instruct, except as this policy describes.
The categories of third parties we may share personal information with are as follows:
AI Platforms
Cloud Computing Services
Data Storage Service Providers Email Delivery Services
Payment Processors Security and Fraud Prevention Services
User Account Registration & Authentication Services
Web and Mobile Analytics
Website Hosting Service Providers
Google is not one of these third parties. It is involved only if you choose to sign in with Google, or when our sign-in and sign-up pages load its sign-in button, and Google's own Privacy Policy applies to what it receives (sections 5 and 7).
We also may need to share your personal information in the following situations:
- Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
Our website sets cookies to sign you in and keep your account secure. Your sign-in cookies are set by our sign-in provider when you sign in, and they are removed from your browser when you sign out of the website. Signing out of the website signs out only that browser: it does not sign out the A2E extension or your other devices (section 15 explains how to sign those out). We use no web beacons or pixels. The browser extension does not use cookies at all; it keeps its own sign-in credentials in the extension's storage on your device.
We also set a few short-lived cookies that are strictly necessary for signing in, creating an account, changing or resetting your password, and confirming to you that you have signed out. They are not used for tracking or advertising, and they expire within minutes or when you close your browser.
Our dashboard also sets one cookie that remembers that you have dismissed a note on your Usage page, so that it isn't shown to you again. It holds nothing else, is not used for tracking or advertising, and lasts up to about 13 months.
Our sign-in and sign-up pages load Google's sign-in button from Google. When those pages load, Google receives standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser details, even if you don't use the button. Google's use of that information is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
We do not display advertising, and we do not use advertising or conversion-tracking technology from any third party — no advertising pixels, tags, or retargeting scripts run on our Services.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser's settings; if you block them, you will not be able to stay signed in to our website .
We use our hosting provider's website analytics on our website (never in the extension) to see how the site is used. It sets no cookies. For each page view it records the page address (including any parameters in it), the referring site, your approximate location (country, region and city), and your browser, operating system and device type, and it identifies a visit only for a short time, without a cookie. It never sees your questions, the pages A2E reads, the pictures, or your voice.
6. DO WE OFFER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE-BASED PRODUCTS?
In Short: We offer products, features, or tools powered by artificial intelligence, machine learning, or similar technologies. As part of our Services, we offer products, features, or tools powered by artificial intelligence, machine learning, or similar technologies (collectively, " AI Products " ). " You must not use the AI Products in any way that violates the terms or policies of any AI Service Provider.
Our AI Products

How We Process Your Data Using AI
All personal information processed using our AI Products is handled in line with our Privacy Policy and our agreement with third parties.
Our Services offer you the ability to register and log in using your third-party social media account details (like your Google login). Where you choose to do this, we will receive certain profile information about you from your social media provider. For Google, the profile information we receive is your name and your email address, and may include a link to your profile picture. We use your name and email address for your account, and keep Google's identifier for your account only for a short time, while you finish creating your account.
We will use the information we receive only for the purposes that are described in this Privacy Policy or that are otherwise made clear to you on the relevant Services. Please note that we do not control, and are not responsible for, other uses of your personal information by your third-party social media provider. We recommend that you review their privacy notice to understand how they collect, use, and share your personal information, and how you can set your privacy preferences on their sites and apps.
8. IS YOUR INFORMATION TRANSFERRED INTERNATIONALLY?
In Short: We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own.Our servers are located in the United States . Regardless of your location, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored by, and processed by us in our facilities and in the facilities of the third parties with whom we may share your personal information (see " WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION? " above), including facilities in the United States, and other countries.
If you are a resident in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), or Switzerland, then these countries may not necessarily have data protection laws or other similar laws as comprehensive as those in your country.
European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses:
Where our service providers offer them, we rely on their data protection terms, which include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary toWe will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). Most of your personal information is kept only while you have an account with us, plus the 30-day window described below. A few kinds of record are kept after that — payment records; a minimal record that the account existed; the record of what you accepted and agreed to (which versions of our Terms and this Privacy Policy you accepted, and the boxes you ticked to agree to a plan change or to deleting an account with an unpaid bill); and a record of the emails we sent you about changes to our Terms or this Privacy Policy — and the paragraphs below say which and why. A few short-lived records we need to run the Services, such as a record that we emailed you about your plan or account, or of a purchase while it is being completed, can last a few weeks after your account is deleted before they are erased.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
If you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately and then kept for 30 days, so that you can restore it if you change your mind. After 30 days (or shortly after, once we have made sure our payment processor cannot charge you again) your account and the personal information associated with it are permanently deleted, apart from the records described in this section, which we keep because tax and accounting law requires it and because we need them to resolve disputes and prevent fraud. The Account Deletion section of our Terms of Service sets out in full what is kept, what is not, and why.
Acceptance records: Each time you accept a version of our Terms of Service, or acknowledge a version of this Privacy Policy, we record it. The record holds your account identifier, which document it was, the version you accepted (its "Last updated" date), the date and time, and whether you did so when creating your account or from your dashboard. We keep these records permanently, including after your account is deleted, so that we can show which version you agreed to and when. While your account exists, we also use them to decide whether you need to accept a newer version before continuing. The Acceptance Records section of our Terms of Service says the same.
Consent records: Each time you tick a box to agree to a charge when you change plans, or to confirm that deleting your account also cancels a subscription with an unpaid bill, we record it. The record holds a reference number, your account identifier, which box it was, which version of its wording you were shown, and the date and time. We keep these records permanently, including after your account is deleted, so that we can show what you agreed to and when. The Acceptance Records section of our Terms of Service says the same.
10. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system ofWe have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
To help keep your account safe, changing your password from your dashboard requires a code we email to you, and changing or resetting your password signs out the A2E extension everywhere. You can also sign out of all your devices at any time from Settings > Account. If you share a computer, remember that signing out of our website does not sign out the A2E extension; sign it out from the extension's own settings.
11. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to anyone under 18.A2E is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to use the Services. We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to anyone under that age, and we do not sell personal information. When you create an account, we ask for your birth year to confirm your age. We use it once for that check and do not store it. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under that age, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete that data. If you become aware of any such data, please contact us at support@use-a2e.com .
12. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?
In Short:In some regions (like the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada ), you have certain rights under applicable data protection laws. These may include the right (i) to request access and obtain a copy of your personal information, (ii) to request rectification or erasure; (iii) to restrict the processing of your personal information; (iv) if applicable, to data portability; and (v) not to be subject to automated decision-making. If a decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects is made solely by automated means, we will inform you, explain the main factors, and offer a simple way to request human review. In certain circumstances, you may also have the right to object to the processing of your personal information. You can make such a request by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section " HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS POLICY? " below.
We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
If you are located in the UK and are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you can make a complaint directly to us. This is in addition to the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

- Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF
If you are located in the EEA or UK and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your Member State data protection authority or UK data protection authority.
If you are located in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
Withdrawing your consent: If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, which may be express and/or implied consent depending on the applicable law, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section " HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS POLICY? " below .
However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.
Opting out of marketing and promotional communications: We send three kinds of email. Account and security emails — such as confirming your email address when you sign up, the code that confirms a change to your password, resetting your password, telling you that you have signed out of all your devices, and confirming that you have deleted or reactivated your account — and emails about your plan and payments — such as confirming a new plan, a plan change or a cancellation, a reminder before a scheduled plan change, and telling you when a refund or a payment dispute affects your plan — are required to run your account and cannot be unsubscribed from. We may also send occasional product update emails. If we do, each will include an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing will not affect account, security, plan or payment emails. You can also ask us to stop product update emails by contacting us using the details provided in the section " HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS POLICY? " below.
Account Information
If you would at any time like to review or change the information in your account or terminate your account, you can:Sign in and open Settings > Account in your dashboard. It shows your name and email, lets you change your password if you have one (we first email you a code to confirm it's you), lets you sign out of all your devices at once, and lets you delete your account. You can also email us at support@use-a2e.com.
Deleting your account is self-serve, from Settings > Account in your dashboard. If you have a paid subscription that is still active, you cancel it first in Settings > Plan & billing; cancelling keeps your plan until the end of what you have already paid for, and you may delete before then. If your latest payment failed, you can instead tick a box confirming that deleting also cancels your subscription and its unpaid bill. When you delete, you are signed out everywhere immediately — including the browser extension — and the account is deactivated. It is kept for 30 days so that you can restore it by signing in and choosing to reactivate; your plan (unless it was cancelled because its payment failed), any extra usage, settings and usage history come back as they were, but your saved card does not: it is removed when you delete, so you add a card again to keep paying. After 30 days it is permanently deleted, except for the records described in the section "HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?" above.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the 15. HOW A2E USES THE PAGE YOU'RE ON, YOUR VOICE, AND WHAT YOU TYPE
A2E is a browser extension that lets you press a shortcut, ask a question about the web page you're currently viewing — out loud, or by typing it — and get a short answer back.
The page you're on: When you press the shortcut, A2E takes a picture of the part of the tab you're actively viewing that you can see. When you send your question, A2E reads content from that tab — the page's address (without anything after a ? or #), its title, any text you've selected, and the page's text — and uses it, with the picture, only to answer your question. A2E does this only when you ask, and only from the tab you're actively using. It does not read your pages in the background, does not read other tabs, and is not active when you're not asking a question. We do not store this page content or the picture, and we do not keep them after your answer is generated.
The picture: It shows only what you can see of that tab, including anything typed into a box there. On a follow-up question, A2E's own answer card is blanked out of it. A2E does not take one in an Incognito window, on pages that aren't ordinary websites, or when it spots a password, payment card or one-time-code box on your screen; your question is then sent without it. There is no separate setting to turn it off.
Your voice: A2E records audio only while a question is active — your microphone is off at all other times, and your browser's recording indicator shows whenever it is on. The recording is sent to OpenAI solely to convert your speech into text, and is used once. We do not store your voice recordings. OpenAI's transcription service offers no setting to turn its retention off: OpenAI may keep the audio for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deleting it, and does not use audio sent through its API to train its models.
Typing instead: If you type your question rather than speak it, you type into a field that belongs to the extension, not to the web page — the page cannot see your keystrokes — and the text is sent only when you press Enter or your shortcut. From that point a typed question is handled exactly like a transcribed one.
Generating your answer: To answer you, we send OpenAI your question (transcribed or typed), the page content and the picture described above, our own standing instructions to the model, and — on Pro and Max — your recent exchanges on that site (see Conversation history). We have set up our account with OpenAI so that these requests are not kept for us. OpenAI may still keep a request for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, and then deletes it. We do not store your questions or A2E's answers on our servers.
Web search: On Pro and Max, some questions are answered with the help of a web search. When this happens, our AI provider runs a search based on your question and the page to find current information. Free accounts do not use web search.
Conversation history: The extension keeps your last three exchanges — your question and A2E's answer, never the page content or the picture — so that a follow-up question makes sense. This memory is kept in your browser on your own device and is never stored on our servers; on Pro and Max it is sent inside your next request on the same site and used for that one answer, and on Free our server discards it and answers each question on its own. It is scoped to one browser tab and one website: it stops being used after 30 minutes without a question, or when you ask from a different tab or a different site (other pages of the same site keep the thread), and it is erased when you close the browser, when you sign out of the extension, or when our server tells the extension that its session has ended (for example after you use Sign out of all devices or change your password). Only exchanges that produced an answer are kept.
What's on our side: We keep your basic account details (your email address and, if you gave one, your name), your plan and billing status, and a record of each question you ask — when it was asked, which model answered, how many web searches it used and what it cost us to run — which we use for billing and to apply your plan's limits. That record holds no text: not your question, not the answer, not the page, not the picture.
The extension's sign-in credential: When you sign in to the extension, it creates a sign-in credential tied to the browser you signed in on, and sends us the extension's identifier and what we need to check that the extension's requests come from that browser, which we store with your extension session. A session ends after a period without use; when you sign out of the extension, which signs out only that extension; when you use Sign out of all devices in Settings > Account; when you change or reset your password; or when you delete your account. Signing out of our website does not end it. The extension also sends us the time zone your browser reports, which we store and use to reset your limits and to show dates in your local time.
Who helps us run A2E: These providers hold or process data on our behalf, under contract, and may not use it for anything else, except as this policy describes.
- Our AI provider, OpenAI — transcribes your voice, reads the page content and the picture you send, and writes the answers, as described above.
- Our database and sign-in provider — holds your account and your sessions, sets the sign-in cookie on our website, and sends some account and security emails, such as password reset.
- Our hosting provider — hosts our website and our service, so every request passes through it; it also provides the website analytics described in section 5, and keeps short-lived technical logs.
- Our rate-limit and short-term storage provider — limits requests to our service in order to prevent abuse, and briefly holds the information we need to check the one-time codes we email you, and the details of a plan change while you review it.
- Our security check provider — when you sign up, sign in or reset your password, a check tells people from automated scripts. To make that judgment your browser sends it information about the request, including your IP address and browser characteristics.
- Stripe — payments and plan changes, as described in section 1. We never see your card number or security code. To show you which card will be charged, we see its brand and last four digits.
- Our email delivery provider — every email we send you, and every account and security email our sign-in provider sends, is delivered by it, and it receives your email address and the content of each message. If you join our waiting list, your email address is also stored with it so we can tell you when we launch.
Google is not one of these providers. It is involved only if you choose to sign in with Google, when Google confirms your identity to us and shares your name and email address (section 7), or when our sign-in and sign-up pages load its sign-in button (section 5). Google's own Privacy Policy applies to what it receives.
